Mora Breaks Singles Record, Terriers Down Eagles, 7-2

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Thomas College women's tennis team took a 7-2 victory over Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.

Green Mountain (1-7, 0-4 NAC) took just one of three matches in doubles action and then posted just one singles matches victory in the loss.

The Eagles' duo of Jannelle O'Connell and Claire Chapman were defeated in first flight doubles by Olivia Mora (Surry, Maine) and Irune Arruti Moreno (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain),  8-3.

Green Moutnain bounced back in second flight doubles coming out on top as Paige Vlahos and Lauren Coye, doubled up Sadie Farrand (Norridgewock, Maine) and Alexis Raymond (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine), 8-4.

Finishing up the doubles action for the visitors was Madison Bentz (Algonquin, Ill.) and Sarahjane Call (Arlington, Texas) who won by default.

Thomas (2-4, 2-0 NAC) took the top two flights of singles matches as Mora finished off Vlahos with a pair of 6-0 set wins, while Moreno also won in straight sets with a pair of 6-3 wins over O'Connell.  Mora's singles victory was her 24th of her career, placing her first in Thomas women's tennis history.

GMC's Chapman won in third flight singles 6-0, 6-0 over Farrand to close out the wins for GMC.

The battle of the day came in number four singles as GMC's Coye jumped out to the first set win with a 6-4 decision, but came away on the short end of a 7-6 (7-3) tie-breaking second set against Thomas' Raymond. Raymond outlasted Coye in the super pro third set with a 10-7 decision.

The Terriers' Bentz earned the sixth point for the visitors with a pair of 6-0 victories over Danjung Yoon.

Thomas took the sixth flight singles match by default.
