CLERMONT, Florida – The Thomas College softball team finished their Florida trip with back-to-back losses, falling to Middlebury, 11-0, and SUNY Potsdam, 6-2.
Middlebury 11, Thomas 0
The Panthers used the long ball early and often as three homeruns combined for eight runs batted in. In the top of the first, Sarah Freyre hit a two-run shot to left field off Terrier pitcher Haley Littlefield (Mount Desert Island, Maine).
Middlebury tacked on six runs in the second inning, including a three-run homer from Olivia Bravo. The Panther bats sat idle for the next two innings until Melanie Mandell hit a three-run dinger off relief pitcher Chelsea Hale (Moreno Valley, Calif.).
The Terriers finished with six hits as Korrie Laren (Blackstone, Mass.) went 2-for-2 at the plate.
SUNY Potsdam 6, Thomas 2
The Bears pushed a pair of runs across in the opening innings to take a 2-0 lead. Thomas responded in the top of the fourth as Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) singled to lead off the inning. After a walk from Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.), Lauren Farina (Schenectady, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to right field to plate LeBourveau. Sarahjane Call (Arlington, Texas) followed with another single to score Colpack, tying the game up at 2-2.
The Terriers' offense was held silent the rest of the way as the Bears added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to finish at 6-2.
Colpack finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. LeBourveau threw five innings, allowing nine hits, and six runs (four earned).
The Terriers will travel home to play at crosstown rival Colby on Thursday, March 30 at 4:00 p.m.
