Terriers Snap Streak in Loss at Colby-Sawyer; Earn No. 2 Seed in NAC Tournament

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Thomas College men's tennis team ended a nine-match winning streak in a 9-0 loss to Colby-Sawyer on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale. 

The Chargers improve to 11-10 overall and clinched the top spot in the NAC with a 6-0 record. Colby-Sawyer is 34-0 in league matches since joining the NAC in 2012. The Chargers will host the NAC East semifinals and finals on Saturday. Colby-Sawyer will play No. 4 seed MCLA. Thomas drops to 10-5 overall and suffers its first conference loss to fall to 5-1. The Terriers will be the No. 2 seed and play No. 3 seed Castleton.

Gustav Jigrup and Alex Wright dispatched Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, Maine) and Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine) 8-1 at the top doubles spot. Dean Boodakian and Ryan Sawyer shutout Jared Waterhouse (Dayton, Maine) and Kaleb Payson (Lamoine, Maine) at No. 2 doubles. Cass McCann and Will Triebel at No. 3 did not drop a game over Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine) and Mark Amato (Manchester, Conn.).

Jigrup earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Chasse at No. 1, while Wright did not drop a game to beat Ross Munn at No. 2. Boodakian (No. 4), Matt Burke (No. 5) and Townsend (No. 6) won in straight sets over Waterhouse, Payson, and Amato.

Sawyer and Disch batted to a lengthy result at No. 3. Disch took the first set 6-1, but Sawyer evened the match by winning the second set 6-3 before edging Disch in a super tiebreak 11-9.
