Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College men's lacrosse team picked up a 17-4 North Atlantic Conference win over the Eagles of Green Mountain College sending three seniors out with a victory in their final performance on Alumni Field. Sophomore Erik Tiner II tied a school record with a seven goal performance in the win. Green Mountain's Forrest Teutsch led the way for the Eagles with a two goal performance.
Today's win sends senior Isaac Brown, Doug Tibbets, and Derek Racine off with a win and helps the Terriers improve to 2-7 (1-2 NAC) on the year. Green Mountain falls to 0-7 (0-3 NAC) on the season with the loss.
Green Mountain struck first in the game's opening minutes as Toliver DiMasi netted the first goal of the game at the 13:06 mark. But the Terriers came roaring back as Tiner II got the Terriers rolling on a three goal run for the home team. Tiner II scored all three goals and capped the run with a man-up goal assisted by Gunnar Shelton with 43 seconds left in the first quarter.
Teutsch ended the Terriers run with a blast at the 14:43 mark making it a 3-2 ball game. Freshman Matt Davis got the Terriers offense rolling again with an unassisted goal at the 13:25 mark starting a seven goal run for the Terriers. Shelton capped the run when he connected with Sean Machin putting the Terriers up 10-2 with 2:36 to go in the first half. Green Mountain Charles Petrick added the Eagles third goal of the game with a goal at the 1:10 mark ending scoring for the half.
At the break the Terriers held a 10-3 lead over the Eagles.
In the third the Terriers added six more to their lead with goals from Racine, Machin, and Tiner II who tied the school record for the most goals in one game at the 3:21 mark. Teutsh netted the Eagles final goal of the game at the 5:23 mark. Machin added an unassisted goal in the fourth capping the day scoring.
Junior Jesse Morkeski picks up the win for the Terriers with 10 saves against 14 shots, while Luke Carey shoulders the loss for Green Mountain making nine saves.
Brown picked up five ground balls, caused three turnovers, and dished out one assist. Tibbets picked up five ground balls and cause two turnovers, while Racine netted two goals for the Terriers.
The Terriers travel to Johnson State on Saturday to take on the Badgers in a NAC regular season matchup. Green Mountain will take on Maine Maritime at home on Saturday.
