WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team got back in the win column Tuesday night as they defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 82-71, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
With the win, the Terriers improve to 8-9 (5-5 NAC) while the Mariners drop to 2-15 (1-9 NAC).
Maine Maritime held an early lead throughout most of the first half as they were led by Nicholas DePatsy's eight points including a pair of shots from behind the arch. The Terriers clawed their way back to take a 38-32 lead at the break. Thomas looked to senior center Carlos Gonzalez (Kennebunk, Maine) who chipped in with 11 points while going a perfect 5-for-5 at the charity stripe.
Throughout the second half, the Mariners shooting fell ice cold as they converted 2-of-14 from three. Thomas extended their lead enough as Maine Maritime could not overcome their early deficit. Freshman Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) provided a spark off the bench in the half with 13 points while fellow freshman Angel Gonzalez (Orlando, Fla.) contributed with nine points.
Webster finished with a game-high and career-high 20 points and dished out a pair of assists in the win for Thomas. Carlos Gonzalez finished with a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds while Angel Gonzalez added 16 points and five boards.
DePatsy and Nick Judge shared a team-high 15 points each while Richardson followed with 11 points and four rebounds. Andrew Liebert neared a double-double effort with eight points and ten rebounds.
The Terriers will be back in action on Friday, January 26 as they take on Colby-Sawyer at 7:30 p.m.
