Waterville, Maine—The Thomas College men's basketball opened up their 2011-2012 season with a 95-80 win over the University of Maine Augusta. Junior Jarrad DeVaughn led the Terriers in scoring with 24 points and he also grabbed eight rebounds.
DeVaughn got the Terriers going with a layup off of an Antonio Juco assist to open the game. Both teams battled to gain control of the scoring throughout most of the first half, until Juco hit layup at the 9:21 mark giving the Terriers a one point lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the game.
At the end of the first half the Terriers led 45-33.
The Terriers came right out of the locker room after the break and went to work on extending their lead over the Moose. Sophomore center Martin Cleveland kicked of a 20 point Thomas run with a very impressive dunk off of a Juco alley-oop pass. UMA's Eric Gange put an end to the Terriers run with a set of free throws at the 14:34 mark making it a 67-39 game.
UMA was able to put together an eight point run till DeVaughn sunk a layup at the 10:40 mark. The Moose tried to chip away at the Terrier lead but when the clock read zeros the final score was 95-80.
Twelve players for Thomas were able to score in the win.
David Prior finished off the game leading the Moose with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Wily Walter chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Josh Croswell finished with 17 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds.
The Terriers face off against the Owls of the University of Maine at Presque Isle on November 18th at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Charlie Ryan Classic.
